RVNA HISTORY

Reynier Village Neighborhood Association History

RVNA started operating unofficially in 2005 and was officially formed in 2007.

The original RVNA successfully focused on working with the City of L.A. on upgrading the quality of the park with play equipment, trees, landscaping, boulders, picnic tables, etc.

The rebirth of RVNA was initiated in 2007 by a group of neighbors who were motivated to increase neighborhood safety by contracting with a security service and wanted to create more opportunities for neighbors to gather and develop a greater feeling of community.

The purpose of the association is to improve the quality of life in our community. We are working towards maintaining a viable residential neighborhood that is a clean, safe and enjoyable place to live. Below is a list of some of RVNA’s ongoing actions and past achievements:

1. Works with the LAPD, our Councilman’s office and SORO NC (South Robertson Neighborhood Council) to alert our neighbors about issues concerning Reynier Village.
2. Hosts summer Park Nights in Reynier Park for neighbors to sample food from local restaurants and get to know each other.
3. Organized Easter and Halloween parties, Ice Cream Socials, RVNA Yard sales, Snow Day, Town Halls, Community meetings and worked in conjunction with the organizers of the Peace Picnic.
4. Previously contracted with Alexander Protective Service (APS) to patrol our streets.
5. Maintains the Reynier Village website as a resource for our residents.
6. Maintains an e-mail list of over 450 addresses to keep our neighbors connected and informed of upcoming events.
7. Maintains a network of Block Captains to distribute flyers and newsletters and develop personal relationships with the neighbors on their streets.
8. Posted Reynier Village signs, designed by local artist Barbara Mendes, to identify our area and show neighborhood pride.
9. Worked with Million Trees LA and KYCC (Korean Youth Community Center) to get free trees planted in our parkways.
10. Worked with NRSC (No Robertson Strip Club) and leaders from our neighboring communities to fight the SKIN Gentleman’s Club at 3388 Robertson.
11. Partnered with C-PAB (Community Police Advisory Board) to create Neighborhood Watch groups on many blocks and posted N.W. signs.
12. Communicated with LA City Bureau of Street Lighting to fix outages caused by copper wire theft.
13. Organized neighborhood clean-ups in conjunction with the City of L.A. and Caltrans.

20.  RVNA wrote a letter to LA Great Streets, at the request of SORONC president Doug Fitzimmons, to support their grant application for South Robertson, and the request was granted (February 3, 2017). Robertson between Cadillac and Kincardine was a 2016 Great Street Challenge winner!

RVNA thanks our many volunteers who serve our Board, as Block Captains and as neighborhood stewards that help create and maintain the friendliness, cleanliness, peace and safety of our Reynier Village community.
